About the Program

The Georgia AHEC Scholars Program is an exciting multidisciplinary program that gives health professions students a unique opportunity to practice hands-on training, gain experience providing care in rural or underserved environments and collaborate with fellow health professions students in the region.

Program Overview

The Georgia AHEC Scholars Program is a two-year program. During this time, Scholars complete: 

  • 80 hours of classroom/online instruction
  • 40 hours of hands-on clinical training

Scholars learn through:

  • Self-paced study
  • Small group-facilitated discussions
  • In-person workshops with local health professions faculty

  • Cultural Competency
  • Behavioral Health Integration
  • Practice Transformation
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Current and Emerging Health Issues

Eligibility Requirements

Students ​must:

  • Be enrolled in a selected Georgia health professions degree program with a duration of two years or longer
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5
  • Committ to completing the two-year AHEC Scholars term

​​Please note:  Requirements for this program are in addition to a student’s regular coursework required by their degree program.
